Fantasy Football Update
Mom's Army is again rockin' the house! I am in the Championship Game this next week. It looks like it is going to be a tight matchup! Let's hope Brian Westbrook can again pull me through the game! I have again gotten at least 2nd place. Gotta love Fantasy Football.....

Pumpkins
Each year we go to a pumpkin patch to let the kids pick their own pumpkins. This year we had planned on going in early October, and then realized as we were on a plane to California for Auntie and Uncle Magoo 2's wedding that we hadn't gotten them yet. So after we got back (yes, just a few days before Halloween!) we went to the patch. It was a muddy day, but we didn't really have any choice. Chicky Magoo 2 doesn't really like mud, or wet pumpkins (apparently) was tippy toeing all over the place.
Then we got to the patch. Well- it WAS a patch of pumpkins, but 2 days before Halloween it has become a vine-patch, with almost no pumpkins! Okay- so we weren't the first people at the patch, but you would think it wouldn't take so long to find a pumpkin that isn't rotten. After MUCH searching, we found 3 pumpkins that we liked. YEA!
One thing we did find out while we were there is that Chicky Magoo 2 is afraid of the inside of pumpkins. She come across a pumpkin that had been smashed while we were walking. She stopped in her tracks and refused to "cross" the path where she could see the "pumpkin guts!" We finally had to pick her up and carry her out of the pumpkin shrapnel into "safe territory!"

Christmas Lights
Today was the designated day to put up the Christmas lights. Well I say it as thought it were a "we," when in fact, it is really just Mr. Magoo. I just stand around as though I were a union guy who is "in charge" of watching. I used to be the one to do the lights, but then a ladder got involved, and I am afraid of heights. So ended my light involvement.
We both were out there for a while checking the lights from last year. Mr. Magoo has a good habit of actually doing this. I on the other hand throw care to the wind, put them up, and then hope for the best. This has gotten me in a bit of a bind on several occasions, but I still don't remember to check the lights each year. Mr. Magoo plugged them in, and low and behold not one whole strand is working.
We of course thought 2 years ago, "we will outsmart these lights, and buy the expensive kind that won't go out!" Why would you buy the dollar kind when these 10 buck a strand one are obviously superior. Well- apparently there is a reason people buy those cheap lights. The reason is because in the vast amount of things that mankind has created, lights that last for 30 days 2 years in a row just isn't one of them. Sure, we've been to the moon, we can figure out where we are in relation to others on the planet with a GPS, and we can even track a package from one destination to the other. We can NOT, in fact, keep a small light on a strand from burning out on a continual basis. My question to the light people is, why is this different than keeping my entire house lit up? Why can I have about 100 outlets with multiple lights on each one, and yet these don't burn out but maybe once a year. (and this is on a daily use!) All I'm really asking for is a longer than 60 evening use. Maybe in my wildest dreams, we could use them for an extended period of time, and you could get more than one years use out of Christmas lights.
I'm sure all of you conspiracy theorists are thinking that somehow the Christmas light people got together and really thought it would be a good gag. Well- the gag is up! The joke is no longer funny! Listen Christmas light people, you had your laugh, but now we need real lights! Ones that work and that are dependable. Hmmm- now that I think about it maybe I should have typed this in Chinese....
Well- off to help Mr. Magoo go from one light to the next trying to figure out why we bought these things in the first place!

Who?
Who do you look like?
Happy Birthday...Now Make Your Cake!
The kids wanted to make my Mom a birthday cake in September for her 60th birthday. I thought it would be fun if they all made it together and got to decorate the cake while she was there. As they were working on this project, I realized just how much work she was going to have to go through to make her own cake. Whoops! (nice idea Ms. Magoo!) Happy Birthday! We have decided that you should make your own cake!
I do think they all had fun doing it though. There was more cooperation from one side than the other...I'll leave it up to you to decide who it was. :)
Below is the finished product!

Shiver Me Timbers
Hello again fans!
It has come to my attention that people actually read this blog. I had no idea! :) I will try my best to keep up and get back in the groove of writing and posting pictures. We have done lots of traveling lately, so I do have plenty of pictures to post. It will be a little choppy at first, while I update you on random things the Magoos have been doing.

Something the Kids Won't Ever Get
My parents were getting ready for a garage sale, when my Mom found an old phone. She gave it to the kids to play with for a while while we were busy doing the pricing and arranging of other items. Later we found them "using" the phone. They were both really excited about the phone and thought it was really the coolest one they had seen. They both thought it was some sort of dual phone, where everyone got to talk, but didn't know why they were "stuck" together. It never occurred to me that they had never used a phone like this one before. . This is when I realized that 1), yes, I am growing older, and 2) my kids would not really get joy of having to stay in one place while talking... technology that we used "back in the day."
As my Mom would say "Heavy sigh."

Pump It Up!
The kids and I went to Pump It Up with our friends while we were in Evansville. The kids had a blast, and we were glad to take them somewhere to wear them out! I think Gretchen and I had just as much fun on the slide as the kids did.
You can see from this picture that in the middle part of one of the bouncers there is a giant circle. I decided it would be fun to launch myself on to it and see how high the kids flew off. To my surprise, not as far as you would think. They cracked up as they launched off, and of course so did I. It was one of my highlights of the trip. We all started laughing so hard we were crying.

The Giz
Several of you have asked for pictures of our "other child." She is with me now in Evansville for the week, and wishing my parents new puppy would just sit still and stop bothering her. Gizmo doesn't have the spunk she used to, but still behaves herself. I guess at 10 (or so) she should be slowing down.
Here is a picture of her rival for the week....Elle. Gizmo is trying to teach her the rules, but she is more interested in finding Kleenex and trying to run through the house. Poor Gizmo doesn't know what to think.

Random Act of Kindness
Today I took the girls to Chicago's Pizza for dinner. I was going to make spaghetti, but they talked me into going out. (okay it didn't take a WHOLE lot of convincing) While we were there the girls were watching the pizza being made and I went over to stand by them. Then our pizza came and we ate at our table. As we were finishing up this older gentlemen came over to us and put down 2 mints and said "Have a nice dinner!" When you pay your bill at the restaurant, they give you mints, and I figured that he didn't want the mints and just saw the girls and thought he would give it to them and make them smile. I said thank you, and he walked away. About a minute later the waitress came over and asked me if I had seen the couple sitting at the table? I said no I didn't, thinking she was going to say he skipped out on the bill, or that we shouldn't have eaten the candy we just got or something strange. She said "Well- he just paid for your meal!" I said "What?" and she just smiled and said "I asked them if they knew you and they said no, but that is pretty cool!" That is what I thought!! I still have no idea why he bought my dinner, but I thought it was a cool thing to do for someone. It certainly made my evening..........and gave me a blog post!!!
I just wanted to post a shout out to the older couple in Chicago's Pizza tonight!

"Chicky Magoo 2 Speak"
As we were getting in the car yesterday, Chicky Magoo 2 was being particularly slow. I told her to hurry up and get in her carseat. She said "Mommy, I can't hurry up. I have swimming eye." I asked her what swimming eye was. She said "It is when you are whilly tired!"

Last Day of School
I know it has already been a few weeks since Chicky Magoo 1's last day of school, but I'm finally getting around to posting about it!
On her last day of school Chicky Magoo 1 had Mass, along with a small awards ceremony afterwards. Then school let out at 11:30. At the awards ceremony, Chicky Magoo 1 got an attendance award for not missing any school this year. The ceremony was nice, and they also got awards for participating in the Wacky Olympics. Each team was honored for something. Chicky Magoo 1 's team got the compassion award. Once the award was announced for the team, they went up and did their team's cheer for that day. It was fun for the kids, and I think we all got a kick out of the cheers.
On the way out of school, each of the teachers dressed up in funny clothes for the kids. They even got Father involved in dressing up! A few of the kids held up signs at the front of carline that said "Honk for SSFC!" The kids loved that we could be loud and celebrate as they left the building. As the kids were called for carline the Principal did a cheer. C-H-I-C-K-Y- M-A-G-O-O! What does that spell? CHICKY MAGOO! (Okay, so she used her real name) It was a fun way to help the kids celebrate and get excited about "graduating" to the next grade.

Snobbery
After being in Vegas for a few days something occurred to me. I am a major bathroom snob!! I hate to admit it, but when I walk into a public bathroom something comes over me. I guess all of the technology has tainted me! :)
While we were staying at NY/NY, I walked into one of their casino bathrooms and they had regular toilets. I actually thought to myself "Eww- What is this? We have to FLUSH these things?" Upon hearing my inner voice say this I had to laugh. What have I become? Paris Hilton or something?
If you think about it, most of the time we are spoiled with bathroom technology. The toilets flush for you, the soap dispenses on its own, the water turns on with the wave of a hand, and if you make some sort of karate move you might just be able to get that paper towel dispenser to work properly and spit out some paper. (I don't know about you, but between getting the water to come on and the towels to come out, I have to make some crazy hand movements! Maybe you can get a black belt in faucet and paper dispensing.)
I knew I was a fan of all of the technology, but I really had no idea that I could officially call myself a bathroom snob until now! Snobs.

Fisher-girls
The kids stayed with Bucia and Papa while Mr. Magoo and I went to Vegas. They had a great time and caught more than a few fish! Chicky Magoo 1 caught a total of 65 fish in just 5 days! Chicky Magoo 2 caught 5 fish on the 1st day, and I think 25 total. (Papa will have to confirm that for me) Here are a few pictures of their first day at the lake.

Recitals
It has been a while, but I finally have time to post pictures of the kids recitals. (yes, I did say "recitalSSSS") They were each in one and so we got to go to two separate recitals. Usually they keep sisters in the same recital, but because we came in about 1/2 way through the year, they had already decided on the recital times. It just so happened that the 2 classes we could pick had 2 separate recitals. It worked out okay though. That way, Chicky Magoo 2 and Chicky Magoo 1 each had their own special day, and we could focus on just one at a time.
Family Birthday
Last weekend, we had the family over for Chicky Magoo 2's birthday. She was very excited to get her birthday celebration under way! She had a Max and Ruby party. Since there are no Max and Ruby plates, cake pans, cups, etc., I had to improvise and make a bunny cake that sort of looked like them. At least SHE thought it looked like them, which was all that mattered.
The girls came home that morning from Mr. Magoo's parents house. We had been in Vegas, and the kids were with them. We were excited to see them and as we were giving hugs, Chicky Magoo 2 noticed the balloons on her chair. She was SO excited and said "Is I be 3 now?" We explained that her actual birthday was Tuesday, but we were celebrating it today. She didn't seem to get it, but also didn't seem to care!
Chicky Magoo 2 has been asking for a new car seat "like Chicky Magoo 1's" for about 6 months now. Mr. Magoo and I did some major research into safety standards and finally decided on a car seat for her. I still can't believe that we don't have any of those bulky baby car seats anymore! It has been a LOT easier since she got this one! I remember not being able to wait until the girls could sit forward facing and now I'm amazed that the seat we brought them both home in is out of our car. WOW!
Once Chicky Magoo 2 realized that it was a car seat she couldn't wait to put it in the car. You can see her below giving the "thumbs up!" I guess we did a good job! :)
Chicky Magoo 1 was happy to help Chicky Magoo 2 in any way she could during the party. Chicky Magoo 2 can't read, so she decided she would read the cards for her.
Chicky Magoo 2 got some great gifts and she had been playing with them non-stop ever since. Here is her Tinkerbell costume she got. I think it was a little bright out for her to actually smile! Ha Ha! (she does have her Daddy's light sensitive eyes!)
She got Lincoln Logs too, which I will have to post up pictures of their creations later. I can't tell who has more fun with them; Mr. Magoo, Chicky Magoo 1, Chicky Magoo 2 or all of them together. They do love building!
This bottom picture is of the girls in their car seats in the car. Chicky Magoo 2 couldn't WAIT to go somewhere in the car. Her favorite part of the car seat is the it has hidden cup holders! Mr. Magoo and I are now obsessed with "keeping the car seat clean!" I know it won't last for that long, since our track record shows that it will have something sticky or gooey on it within the first week, but hey we can dream!

Bouncertown!
Chicky Magoo 2 had her party at Bouncertown today with her friends! She LOVES the place, and wouldn't have had her birthday anywhere else. Here are a few pictures.
Blowing out her 3 candles...
Chicky Magoo 1 and 2 peeking out of a bouncer...
Chicky Magoo 2 getting her big girl panties.... (let's hope that is a gift she intends to USE!)

Well- my "baby" is officially 3 today! We are off to the big birthday celebration. She is very excited about turning 3, and has told us more than once today that "today is my real birthday! I'm really 3 years old!"
Happy Birthday Chicky Magoo 2!

Patience is a Virtue!
With all of the end of year events we have scheduled I haven't had a chance to update my blog in a while. I have heard all of you who have called, or told me to get on the ball! Today is Chicky Magoo 1's last day of Kindergarten, so I'm sure once summer is here I'll have more time. For now, we are heading out to pick her up from school, and then off to an end of year swimming party!

2 Weeks To Go!
With only 2 weeks to go in my fundraiser for Never Too Late, I have great news! I have already collected over $1500! I continue to get checks in the mail almost daily, which is wonderful! I am amazed at your generosity, and thank you SO much to all of those who have already contributed! I know we will have made a difference for many seniors who would like a wish granted. I still have 2 more weeks, and will continue to collect money until May 31st.

Pictures From the Trip
Here are some pictures from our trip.
Dad playing checkers with the girls. Chicky Magoo 2 was into "kinging" everyone, even in the middle of the board. I think he had his hands full, not only teaching the game, but also figuring out what was going on with the game.
Chicky Magoo 1 went around and found walking sticks for everyone. Dad got a HUGE one that as you can see is over 6 feet tall. I guess she thinks he is really tall, or that he really needed help walking! Being the good Grandfather he played along for some of the trip, and walked down the street with his tree limb. Chicky Magoo 2 kept trying to find the smallest walking sticks.Auntie Magoo 1 has a video of her that I'm hoping to get posted to YouTube soon.
A trip to Rough River isn't complete without a game of Galaga. It was the original one that we played as kids, so only the blue color was still working on the screen!
The path leading down to the lake. This is where we skip rocks! Chicky Magoo 1 got the hang of it finally. I think she is better than I am at it. Chicky Magoo 2 wanted to be sure and "plash" everyone with big rocks. We did find out that 2 kids throwing rocks at the same time probably wasn't a great idea. A few people took rocks to the back, rear, and almost head! Yikes!

Rough River
This weekend we took a family trip to Rough River, Kentucky. We used to go there as kids about once a year, and it was fun to take the kids to see it. We went boating, fishing, walked the trails, played board games and even got in some shuffleboard. I'll get the pictures posted soon!

Good Point
This excerpt comes from the latest book I'm reading 'Stumbling on Happiness' by Daniel Gilbert.
'What would you do right now if you learned that you were going to die in ten minutes?...
Hard to say, of course, but of all the things you might do in your final ten minutes, it's a pretty safe bet that few of them are things you actually did today.
Now, some people will bemoan this fact, wag their fingers in your direction, and tell you sternly that you should live every minute of your life as though it were your last, which only goes to show that some people would spend their final ten minutes giving other people dumb advice.'

Boxes Are On The Move!
We have had pretty good success with putting out the Never Too Late collection boxes so far! The latest has been placed at Teresa's Hallmark, thanks to the help of my neighbor. Teresa said that probably with Mother's Day coming up it will be a good time to put them out. I have 3 other boxes out, and think one more that will be placed soon. Again, if you would be able to "host" a box in your business, workplace, or anywhere you think would let people know about the fundraiser, please let me know. It is only a 2 week commitment.
Thanks to everyone who has already donated! Each day I go to the mailbox and again someone has been generous enough to send in a check. THANK YOU!

Miniature Golf
If you have never taken a 2 year old miniature golfing you definitely should! We decided to take the family today for a little fun. When we got there, both girls were very excited to play! We explained to Chicky Magoo 1 and Chicky Magoo 2 how to hold the club, what the rules were, and how hard to hit the ball. The first rule at this course was not to step in the water (and believe me they had plenty of water, fountains, and ponds around) because it was tinted with a blue dye that is permanent if it gets on your clothes. Why they would do this in water that has nets near you to scoop out your ball, because it definitely WILL go in the water, is beyond me? But- it did make it fun! I hit the ball in the water at least 3 or 4 times. Mr. Magoo had his share. Chicky Magoo 1 did once, but I think wished she could have fished them out each time. Chicky Magoo 2 took this rule the most serious off everyone! She was scared of her ball going into the water, and would tell us that she would just wait until later to play! She put her ball away from the water way down the green, as to make sure it was NOT going in!
We all had a great time, even with our 5 minute rain delay. By the end, Chicky Magoo 1 really started getting the hang of it. She made a 2 on a pretty hard hole. She wasn't that excited, because to her, it was all the same. It didn't seem to matter what the score was, just if we are having fun! I was particularly glad this was the case!!! :)
The Magoo Family game was funny to be around. I was just glad no one else was behind us either because we were taking a while at each hole. Not once did we use the 6 stroke rule, and made sure to just play it out! Mr. Magoo and I felt as though it was a comedy of errors that led to an eventful and fun outing! It is always a good time when you laugh and smile so much your cheeks hurt! :)
Golf Rules (according to a 2 year old)
1- You may scoot your ball around with the club.
2- If scooting doesn't work, just pick up the ball and roll it.
3- While others are taking their turn it is best to go directly in front of them, line up your ball and swing.
4- Hitting the ball in the hole does not mean your turn is done. Simply line up close to the hole as often as you can before everyone else finishes.
5- I am told you don't have to cry if your ball goes into the water, but I find it best to cry until the ball is retrieved. "It is turry!" (scary)
6- If there is an obstacle, say rocks, in the middle of the green, try to get your ball into that area. When you do make sure to say "oh man" and laugh as if you weren't trying to do it in the first place.
7-Did I mention that it is scary when the ball goes into the water?
8-Whenever possible tell each member of your team "I am REALLY dood (or good if you are already able to use a 'g' sound)
9-Have a good time, and cheer for everyone!
10-Again, I really don't like the ball going in the water!
Golf Rules (according to a 6 year old)
1- If the ball is close to the hole, hit it hard.
2- If the ball is far away, hit it softly.
3- When the ball goes into water, make SURE to ask if you can get it out. (Even if you have been told before that you won't be able to, it doesn't hurt to ask!)
4- Do a happy dance each time the ball goes into the hole.
5- Find the closest ball and accidentally tap it with either your club or kick it with your foot.
6- Cheer for your sister!
7- Cheer for your Mommy!
8- Cheer for your Daddy!
9- Above all else, it doesn't matter what the score is, HAVE FUN!

Fundraising Efforts
Things are off to a great start so far! I have raised nearly 40% of my goal already. Thanks to all of you who have already contributed. The boxes are also going well! So far, I have 1 collection box in place, and 2 more will go up next week. If you know of anyone who would be willing to 'host' a small collection box for 2 weeks at their workplace please let me know!
Never Too Late is now at 1253+ wished granted to date! With the money we have raised so far, 2 more will be on their way!

Never Too Late
I'm sure some of you are wondering what the chart is on the right side of the page. It is a fundraiser I'm doing for a group called Never Too Late. They grant wishes for the elderly in nursing homes, hospice patients and others in adult day care situations. This organization is so amazing that they try and grant one wish a day to someone! The wishes they grant are simple ones, but can end up making a profound difference in the outlook in an elderly person's life. It gives them something to look forward to, something to hope for, and in the end, something they can think back about in a positive way. I am currently trying to raise $1000 for them, so they can continue doing the wonderful work that they do.
If you would like to make a donation to Never Too Late, just click the link below. It will take you to PayPal, and you can send money that way. I'm not sure about the tax deduction, but I just wanted to make it easier for you. The other way to donate would be to send a check made out to Never Too Late.

Symphony
Yesterday we took the kids to the symphony. Chicky Magoo 2 has been very interested in the whole idea for a few months, and we thought it might be fun to take them there. They had a family series called "Tribute to Heroes," which was great. We got there about 30 minutes before the concert, and they had all sorts of kid-centered activities. The kids made a picture frame to put their hero's picture in. Then we went and heard a drum band (which was SO loud, by the way!) And finally, went to a "meet the musician" area, where the kids got to talk with a viola player. It was a fun way to get the kids involved in music I thought, and the people who run the symphony really did a great job making it a kid-friendly event!
The concert started and in between each song, they had a guy explain what the next song was about and discuss what the word "hero" meant. They even had the conductor talk to the group, and discuss different parts of the music.
Chicky Magoo 1 LOVED it, but said she thought they were just going to play one long song. We explained that since it was a family series they picked shorter songs. Chicky Magoo 2 liked the first 2-3 songs, and then just sat on the floor and played with her mommy and baby camels. The last song though they had the audience clap, so Chicky Magoo 2 and Chicky Magoo 1 really got into that one.
After the concert we were getting in the car when Mr. Magoo and Chicky Magoo 1 told me their favorite part, that somehow didn't catch. Apparently, the conductor was really into the music and on an up-note, lost his baton. It sailed through the air and hit the 3rd chair cello player's music stand. They said the cello player jumped out of her seat. I was too busy making sure Chicky Magoo 2 was doing okay, that I missed that. I'm guessing that would have been my favorite part too! ;)
Afterwards they had a question and answer session for anyone who wanted to talk with the conductor. Chicky Magoo 1 said she didn't have any questions and so we left. Then when we got in the car, she said "I know what I should have asked! Why did you hit the cello player?"

Beautiful Weather
This weather has been SO nice lately. We have gone on lots of walks, and gotten yard work done too! The kids are so happy to be playing on the swing set again. We need to go get some propane for the grill, to get in the full swing of spring/summer. It has been a while since we grilled out, and I really miss our daily dinner outside! Hopefully we will get that done soon, so we can spend even more time outside!

Knowledge of Ms. Magoo (tm)
I haven't actually posted one of these in a while, so here goes.
Wondering: How long until Shark Week? And will it be any good?
Wanting: To post a video to YouTube (I've had the stuff for a while, just haven't had time to do it)
Watching: House Season 2 while on the treadmill
On My Mind: Why doesn't the post office, FedEx, or UPS have drive up windows? Who wants to haul in a package, when you could just drive it up to a window?

Kid Quotes Plus One
Chicky Magoo 1:
"I don't like lessons. It is just people telling you that you aren't doing it right all of the time!"
Chicky Magoo 2:
"I have a secret for you!" (Then she put her ear towards me and just listened...)
Ms. Magoo:
"If they would just stop singing in musicals, think how fast you could get done with it!"
(this one was for Mr. Magoo)

Egg Fights, a Family Tradition...
I'm sure most of you are wondering just what in the world an egg fight is, and why would you egg fight in your Sunday best?!? It is a family tradition to egg fight on Easter. It has been around LONG before even my Grandpa was a kid. The origins are a little sketchy, but I was told it was an old French or French/American tradition, and is centuries old. I have also found reference on the web to it being an Armenian and British tradition. There is even a place where they have a contest every year (and have a 0-3year old category!)
Egg fighting is simple. You take an egg from your "collection," and hold it so only the top is showing. How to hold it is a skill that you gain later, but the basic hold will work too! ;) Then the other person tries to crack your egg in a single hit. The egg that isn't cracked can continue to play. The other is the loser of that hit. You play both sides of the egg, and the winner is determined by the lone egg that isn't cracked. It is a BIG deal to be the champion for that year!
This year started out with Dad showing the kids again how to hold the egg. Chicky Magoo 2 needed some help on the first hit, but then after that she figured it out well enough that she got even the cheating down.
Chicky Magoo 1 looks a little scared about this hit! I was on a streak of 3 hits without cracking my egg though, so she should have been a little nervous! LOL!
I think this is one of those traditions that when we first met, Mr. Magoo found a little strange, but also thought it sounded pretty fun. He got into it after the first hit, about 10 years ago, and since has wanted to win! I don't think he has been the champion yet. This year he wanted to file a grievance about a hit I made, but there really is nowhere for him to turn in such a situation. He thinks I hit the side of his prized egg (which I didn't NOT do on purpose, although I know the evidence would suggest otherwise) For the record that egg broke on the next hit, so it was a wash. He was quite happy to see my egg destroyed!
We always have fun doing this, and it gives you something to do with them besides making deviled eggs. YUCK!
Chicky Magoo 1 was the champion this year. Here she is holding up the prized egg!
